Visit EVA artists at South East Open Studios 2010 from 4th - 20th June 2010

This year there 19 artists from the Eden Valley area opening their studios as part of the annual South East Open Studios, which takes place during June each year, many of which are part of EVA.

Throughout June there will also be a SEOS taster window exhibition in the window of 67 Hight St, Edenbridge

The artists taking part are:

Julie Childs and Myra Wishart are showing together in Emmetts Lane. Julie is a zoologist and painter who also produces wonderful batiks. Myra works in glass and also Raku fired ceramics.

Liz Stace (EVA) and Jane Wharrad (EVA) are in Four Elms, opposite the petrol station. Jane is a sculptor, making rather quirky small figurative pieces, and Liz is a potter making a wide range of work including tall vases and ‘ocean bowls’ all with unique glazing.

Round the corner in Five Fields Lane, Four Elms is Virginia Griffith-Jones. It is the first time Virginia has taken part in Open Studios, her work is really worth seeing.

Sarah Medway (EVA) and her mother Monica are on show in Hilders Lane. Sarah is an award-winning landscape photographer and also paints in watercolour, Monica works in oils, she will be showing some local landscapes and still life paintings.

Sheila Parish (EVA) is in Grange Close, she works in ceramics and paints, her work inspired by Japanese and Chinese art. She will be demonstrating on the 17th, 18th and 19th.

Four artists, Mary McCarten (EVA), Claire Longley (EVA), Angelika Caple and Jo Wooltorton (EVA) are all in Lingfield Road. On show at the studio there will be Mary’s stunning glassware, Claire’s animal paintings and etchings, Angelika’s decorative wall planters and Jo’s paintings, quirky animal wall hangings and bodies.

Cathy Bird (EVA) and her brother David Evans Bailey are at Jessops Farm Studios, contrasting work with David specialising in surreal digital imagery and Cathy painting flowers, portraits, women washing. Cathy is demonstrating and offering free art lessons during Open Studios.

Slightly out of town, in Lingfield there is a wonderfully varied collection of work by three artists. Denise Laurent (EVA) work is full of rich colours, Lois Sykes (EVA) produces uncluttered, tightly cropped work. Both paint animals, and Helen Morris-Clarke designs exquisite hand made jewellery.

In the other direction you will find Carol Steptowe (EVA) in Silverstead Lane, Westerham, she is demonstrating throughout and showing her atmospheric landscapes and costal paintings. Just up the road from her in Pound Lane, Knockholt is Andrea Hale, she is also demonstrating and showing her paintings.

EVA member Shiv Duke will be showing her life drawings, prints and watercolours at Dibgate Farm at Sundridge, and Ciara Healy her handmade books and paper cut paintings at Groombridge, she is also demonstrating on the 5th, 12th and 19th. Christine Langworthy is in Crowborough, she is showing her fascinating sports inspired work there.
